Dr M. B. Patil is a renowned educationist, politician and a statesman. He is the Hon'ble Chancellor of BLDE (Deemed to be University). Dr M. B. Patil is also the President of the century-old BLDE Association, the sponsoring society of BLDE (Deemed to be University)

He was born in 1964. He holds a degree in Bachelor of Engineering from BLDEA's Vachana Pitamaha PG Halakatti College of Engineering.

In 1990, at a young age of 26, Dr M. B. Patil shouldered the responsibility of the association. Under his positive leadership and a strong vision the association has grown to greater heights and crossed many milestones. Currently, the association owns and runs 75 institutions rendering quality education in various streams including medical and engineering.

He began his political career in 1991 and since then he has been elected as a member of legislative assembly several times (5 times) and he has also been the member of Parliament. During his vast political career, he has served as Cabinet Minister of Water Resources and Major and Medium Irrigation, Government of Karnataka and as a Home Minister of Karnataka. He has made immense contribution in the overall development of the district and most crucial one was to bring Krishna water to the parched villages of Vijayapura district bringing relief and hope to thousands of farmers of the district. His concern for the environmental conservation and the ongoing water crisis in the district has lead to the onset of a green campaign 'Kotivruksha Abhiyan'. Under this campaign, millions of plants have been planted in and around the district. He has emerged as a leader for the mass and the farmers and he has aptly been called 'Modern Bhagiratha'.

In recognition of his immense contribution in the field of education and service to the society D. Y. Patil University, Kolhapur has conferred on him The Honorary Doctorate on March 17th 2015.
